We have detected the optical flaring of a radio source with unknown redshift in the data from the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey (CRTS). The discovery J2000 coordinates are as follows.

ID Detection DateRADecMagVOEvent ID
CSS090517:130303+24356 2009-05-13 UT 06:40:24 13:03:03.2024:33:56.1 16.7 905171230654131642
The mag column above refers to the visual outburst mag from the CSS. It has brightened by over 3 mags in the last 3 months. It would be interesting to see if the outburst is also seen at other wavelengths, especially in gamma-rays

The discovery data, CSS lightcurve and finding chart for the source are posted at the following VOEventNet webpage:
http://voeventnet.caltech.edu/feeds/ATEL/CRTS/905171230654131642.atel.html

Further observations are requested.
