The GLAST-AGILE Support Program (GASP) of the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) reports on the recent observation of a strong optical brightening of the blazar 3C 345. This is one of the 28 sources for which the GASP performs a long-term, multiwavelength monitoring. After a faint state (R ~ 17) observed in mid 2009, the brightness started to increase in July, and in August a sharp flare led to a peak of R = 16.09 +/- 0.01 on August 20; this was followed by a fast dimming and subsequent steep rebrightening up to R = 15.75 +/- 0.01 on September 20. The source was observed at R = 16.23 +/- 0.01 five days later, and then the brightness rose again to R = 15.94 +/- 0.01 on September 29; last night, October 1, it was around R = 16.4. At mm wavelengths, 3C 345 has been active since early 2009, with a flux density at 230 GHz oscillating about 3-4 Jy.
