We report the discovery of the first supernova candidate from the Siding Spring Survey (SSS) by the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey (CRTS). The detection has the following details:

IDDisc. DateRADecDisc. Mag
SSS100508:210144-143830 2010-05-08 21:01:44.10 -14:38:30.5 16.4

The host galaxy, 2MFGC 15924 (=PGC 187888), has redshift z=0.0275 (Jones et al. 2009, 6dF). Confirmation images were taken remotely in Mayhill, New Mexico on May 13.4 UT by J. Brimacombe (Cairns, Australia). Additional follow-up is requested. More information on the event can be found at http://voeventnet.caltech.edu/feeds/ATEL/CRTS/.

Images from the Siding Spring Survey are processed for optical transients in real-time by CRTS and all detections are immediately made public.
Additional transient discoveries from the SSS data are available here. More info on the CRTS project can be found at http://crts.caltech.edu/
SSS is supported by NASA grant NNG05GF22G and CRTS is supported by NSF Grant No. AST-0909182.
