The Type Ia supernova science working group of the Palomar Transient Factory (ATEL#1964) reports the discovery of the Type Ia supernova PTF10mwb. A spectrum of PTF10mwb was taken on Gemini North on June 30 UT. The redshift is approximately z=0.03 +/- 0.01, from a fit to the SN. Matches to other spectra using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005) indicate that PTF10mwb is a fairly normal SN Ia that was discovered at least a week before maximum light. Lines of CII are also apparent. Observations with the Palomar 48 inch indicate that the SN was approximately R=20 on June 29 UT, and was not detected to R=21 on Jun 24. If it is a normal, unreddened SN Ia, the photometry indicates that the SN may have been discovered more than two weeks prior to maximum light. STIS/UV spectroscopic observations on the Hubble Space Telescope were triggered by the ToO program "Verifying the Utility of Type Ia Supernovae as Cosmological Probes: Evolution and Dispersion in the Ultraviolet Spectra " (PI: R. Ellis).
