P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the HST Higher-z SN team (PI A.Riess) reports the discovery of an optical transient (possible supernova) found in a subtraction image generated from observations taken on Oct 10 and Nov 26, 2010 with HST/WFC3-IR as part of the CANDELS: Cosmic Assembly Near-IR Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (HST program 12061, PI S. Faber and H. Ferguson) in the GOODS-South Field. The possible supernova is not apparent in the Oct 10th observations and the following magnitudes are reported for Nov 26th observations WFC3-IR/F160W 21.65 (0.08), WFC3-IR/F110W 22.18 (0.03), and WFC3/F350LP 23.84 (0.02). Additional photometry was obtained on Nov 30 and Dec 5 with HST/ACS/F814W yielding magnitudes of 22.98(0.02) and 22.6(0.09), respectively. The host galaxy spectral redshift is z=0.1239 from VVDS (VIMOS) survey of CDFS, LeFevre et +al., 2004, A&A, 428, 1043. A photo-z is also calculated @ 0.16. The possible supernova position is 03:32:17.7 -27:50:57.5 J2000.
