Ginga Specific Software: Program BGDSIM

Purpose

Program bgdsim generates background data for a particular Ginga CUBE or TIME series. Bgdmfit must be run prior to bgdsim.

Input Files

A variable number of input files are required. The observation file, for which it is desired to generate a corresponding background file. A variable number of files (previously generated by bgdmfit), each containing coefficients describing the dependance of the background with a given parameter. Normally there are at least 4 (probably 6) such files:

  • bgd_constant.phad
  • bgd_sud.phad
  • bgd_cor.phad
  • bgd_saa_n.phad (where n is the number of radioactive decays used)

Output File

A file containing the predicted background over the time period defined by the input file. The "shape" of the input and output files are identical.

Input Parameters

Bgdsim requires five input parameters. The QX parameter system is used to read these parameters.

BGD_DATIN The name of the file containing the source data.
BGD_DATOUT The name of the file containing the generated background.
BGD_NPAR The number of coefficient files which describe the background.
BGD_PFILE(BGD_NPAR) The names of the coefficient files which describe the background.
BGD_EMULT Bgdsim generates variances according to the formula:
    Variance = ((1[sigma] statistical error) × bgd_emult
