Ginga Specific Software: Program SHRINK

Purpose

Program shrink reduces the size of HDS files. It does this in two ways. Firstly some programs leave large amounts of unused space in HDS files. This is particularly noticable for spectral (PHAD) files. Shrink always reclaims this space. Secondly many files have in addition to the science data large arrays of auxiliary or housekeeping (HK) data; Ginga files are particularly affected. Optionally shrink can delete some or all of these arrays. Remember, however, that much of the Ginga data analysis (e.g. background subtraction, attitude correction and cleaning) uses this auxilairy information.

Input File(s)

A Ginga CUBE, TIME series or PHAD file(s).

Output File(s)

A "shrunk" Ginga CUBE, TIME series or PHAD file(s).

Input Parameters

Shrink requires a variable number of input parameters. The QX parameter system is used to read these parameters.

SHR_SPEC Specification of the files to be "shrunk" (including wild cards).
SHR_EXT The string to be added to each input filename to construct the output filename(s).
SHR_NHK The number of auxiliary (HK) data arrays to be copied. If set to -1 (the default) all data is copied to the output file. If set to 0 all auxiliary data arrays with more than 64 elements are deleted. If set to n (where n is greater than zero) the user is prompted to specify the n array names (see below).
SHR_HKNAME(SHR_NHK) The names of the auxiliary (HK) data arrays to be kept (see above).
