Raw Data and the Raw Data Reduction SoftwareThe raw Ginga datafiles (FRFs) are available through the LEDAS database GINGAFRF. In addition, the Ginga reduction software is also available by anonymous ftp. The GINGAFRF database table, made from the kiroku (log sheets) received from ISAS in Japan, is the best route to the raw data. Using ARNIE or BROWSE you can select data according to pointing direction, bit rate, operating mode, observation date, etc. to locate all the FRFs belonging to one observation. The GINGAFRF database table contains one entry per slot start or end (i.e. a new entry occurs every time there is an earth occultation, ground station pass, electron belt passage, etc). The FRFs containing all the selected slots may be extracted using the xp command from within BROWSE or by selecting on-line products from ARNIE. A full description of the database table is available from both BROWSE and ARNIE, and on the LEDAS Website at: http://www.ledas.ac.uk/ginga/raw_data.html. The default sample of the GINGAFRF table contains only the pointed data. If you are interested in slewing or scanning data then you need to select the total sample with the BROWSE command csam total, this sample is not accessible with ARNIE. The Ginga data reduction software runs under the OSF1 operating system on DEC Alpha machines only. It is available for local installation from our anonymous ftp site (ftp://avalon.star.le.ac.uk/ginga/soft). An extensive user guide can be found in the directory ginga/doc. We caution that this software was not originally written for distribution, and that only limited effort is available to support it at remote sites. Unfortunately, our resources do not allow remote use of this software on the LEDAS machine.
