HEASoft Source Code Distributions

The source code distribution contains the entire HEAsoft package: general tools, mission specific tasks, and graphical user interface utilities (GUIs). You will need to compile them locally. ANSI C and Fortran compilers are required.

Due to the combined size of everything and the variety of users' needs, the HEAsoft source distribution is available either as a single, large tar file, or as several subsets of tools and data files. Each of the following packages contains everything needed to build and run the named package, including all libraries, data files, documentation, etc. The one exception is that Xspec's data files are excluded from the HEAsoft package. To get absolutely everything download both the HEAsoft and Xspec Data packages.

For Swift Data Analysis:

Swift v1.1 software & HEAsoft 5.3.1 - Contains the Swift v1.1 software and all of HEASOFT 5.3.1 (includes the complete FTOOLS, XANADU, & XSTAR) (71 Mb). For more information, see the Swift 1.1 Release Notes.

For all other data analysis (not including Swift), choose from the options below:

HEATOOLS 0.9 (beta) - New package of general FITS utilities (5 Mb) (more info)

	HEAsoft 5.3.1 (Complete) (64 Meg)		Complete source code to build FTOOLS 5.3.1, XANADU 5.3.1 (see below for details) and XSTAR 2.1k. This file does not include data files for Xspec 11.3.1.
	FTOOLS 5.3.1 (58 Meg)		Same as HEAsoft 5.3.1, excluding XANADU 5.3.1 (see below for details) and XSTAR 2.1k. Note that Xronos 5.21 is included with HEAsoft and with XANADU, but not with FTOOLS.
	XANADU 5.3.1 (26 Meg)		Complete source code to build XANADU 5.3.1 only. XANADU 5.3.1 consists of image (Ximage 4.2.1), spectral (Xspec 11.3.1), and timing (Xronos 5.21). This file does not include data files for Xspec 11.3.1.
	XSTAR 2.1k (10 Meg)		Complete source code to build XSTAR 2.1k.
	Xspec 11.3.1 Data (135 Meg)		Xspec's data files, needed along with either HEAsoft or XANADU. Required only for running Xspec.
	Xspec 11.3.1 Data For APEC NEI Models (18 Meg)		Needed only by XSPEC users running APEC NEI Models.

TO INSTALL:

Un-gzip and untar all the downloaded packages from the same root directory, then follow the instructions in the appropriate install document to complete the installation of the software (these files are also included in the downloads):

If you downloaded the SWIFT package, see: INSTALL-SWIFT.SRC
If you downloaded the HEATOOLS package along with any other packages, see: INSTALL-HEA.SOURCE
Otherwise, see INSTALL.SOURCE

MD5 checksums: To check the integrity of any of the files you downloaded above, run the Unix command "md5sum -c" on the source distribution checksum file.
